Prodigy Overview

Empowering Students

Prodigy (formerly MERITS) helps freshmen deal with the new expectations, challenges and unexpected bumps of college in a fun and welcoming atmosphere with staff and students who care about your success at the UA.

We are a free, goal-driven program open to any incoming UA freshman. Our students meet with trained Peer Advisors one-on-one, twice a month to discuss academic concerns, success strategies and life. Our Peer Advisors empower students to have a fun and successful freshmen year.

What is Prodigy?

Prodigy inspires new Wildcats to take charge of their undergraduate careers from day one. Through our Peer Advisors, we educate new students about the best ways to navigate college – both inside and outside the classroom. We work with students to identify their unique skills and give them the tools to achieve personal and academic goals. Most of all, we give students a place to study, laugh, vent and plug into a strong network of friends.

Two Semesters. One Goal.

While being a University student brings exciting opportunities, it also brings challenges that can often overwhelm new students. Our program is designed to introduce students to the realities of college life before the realities of college life introduce themselves.

Prodigy Program Requirements

Prodigy participants must agree to be an active participant in the following required activities:

  • Meet with their Peer Advisor every other week
  • Attend weekly workshops
  • Maintain a grade sheet for enrolled classes
  • Submit a mid-semester academic progress report
